Hobsons was established in 2010 by Benjamin R. Day, an experienced laboratory instrumentation specialist who recognised the need for flexible, high-quality service solutions. With over 25 years of industry experience across Europe and Australia, Benjamin has built a reputation for delivering consistent, reliable support.
Based in Melbourne since 2004, his career includes eight years as National Technical Specialist at Mettler Toledo. Previously he was a European Service Manager role overseeing automated organic synthesiser systems. His strong grounding in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, and instrument engineering enables him to confidently address a wide range of technical enquiries.
Benjamin has extensive hands-on experience with instruments including autotitrators, thermal analysers, FT-IR systems, and lab- to pilot-scale reactors, spanning capital values from $1,000 to $1 million. A practical problem-solver, he combines deep technical expertise with a clear, customer-focused communication style.
A science graduate with a Master’s in Physics, Benjamin is known as a trusted, dependable professional. His reputation as a “safe pair of hands” led directly to the creation of Hobsons, where his technical skill and approachable manner continue to set the standard for service excellence.
